May I?

I’m excited to present to you PAU TEROL TRIO , his first album as a leader, a true letter of introduction. An album in which we can clearly taste Jamal’s influence and the main pianists inspired by him, as well as Monty Alexander’s or Joey Calderazzo’s.
The repertoire of this album includes four well-achieved originals by Terol, among which “Not Yet” shines for the swing it breathes, with a brilliant Joan Terol both in solos and comping. In addition, we find two compositions by the pianists mentioned above, Alexander and Calderazzo, and three standards with a Jamalish flavor that would have delighted our Jaume Juan Magriñà had he been among us today.
Pau Terol’s music walks at a gentle pace, with rich quartal harmonizations and a good command of space. The songs include abundant solos by the double bass player Pau Lligadas, with melodic phrasing and brilliant sound in the high register that stands out in “The Oracle” and “Candle Light”, in excellent contrast to the piano solos. The solid rhythm section shows a good knowledge of Terol’s stylistic language, presenting a coherent, energetic and relaxed trio.
The one from “May I?” is a trio with a rich jazz vocabulary and many things to say that, I truly believe, deserves to be heard.
